Would you like to learn a little more about the wines you’re buying and drinking?

Matching them with food?

Would you like the chance to experience new flavours, compare and contrast different grapes, different regions, new world versus old, or oaked versus un-oaked?

Yes? Then perhaps you should consider joining the ...

The Society was formed 13 years ago and meets monthly in the Village Hall.  We welcome everyone from those with little experience of wine-drinking to budding connoisseurs.

The programme for 2008 included tastings of wines from as far apart as the Rhone Valley and New Zealand.  Another tasting was dedicated to matching sweet wines with savoury foods, whilst in October we were privileged to have Pedro Branco from Quinto do Portal as guest presenter – the day after he attended the Grosvenor House to accept an IWC award for Portugese winemaker of the year! Other regions will get a good look-in at our Christmas tasting.

At our meetings we are given the opportunity of tasting wines of good quality at a variety of prices and over the years have had once-in-a-lifetime chances to sample (in small quantities!) some of the finest wines in the world.  A dinner is organised each year to give members the chance to explore the match of wine with food.  Many members also take part in an annual wine tour – last year we explored Portugal’s beautiful Duoro valley, and this year we visited the stunning winelands of South Africa. Alsace is being planned for next year.

Our 2009 programme should be published shortly. Our tastings are always pleasurable, light-hearted affairs.  We don’t take ourselves too seriously.  You don’t need to be a wine expert to take part though there is always the possibility that after a few years you will become one.  If you are interested in joining or just in attending a meeting to see whether this is your scene or not, ring Graham or David for more details.
