The Goring Gap Business Network

Networking Launch Night

27th October

The Swan at Streatley

The Goring Gap Business Network (GGBN) successfully re-launched its activities at the Swan in Streatley on the night of the 27th October 2011. The evening was enjoyed by a wide variety of people and businesses.

The event was originally scheduled to take place on the Oxford Barge but had to be moved to a larger room due to number of attendees.

On arrival there were drinks and light refreshments. The format for the evening included a number of networking activities to encourage interaction and awareness between the various members.

Members submitted their business cards into a draw for a bottle of Champagne.

“It was a superb turn-out of local business people for a newly reformed group,” said Paul O’Loughlin from Warmingham Estate Agency. “Most importantly, there was very interesting interaction between attendees, with many new ideas and ventures being discussed.”

It was a night of constructive and creative networking with a lot of positive energy. Carol Ball, from Mortimer Burnett Accountants said, “It was a truly invigorating and exciting evening, quite different in its approach. What struck me is how many diverse businesses were present and the possibilities for synergy between us all. Really quite thought provoking.”

The evening was led by the GGBN’s new Chairman and Vice Chairlady, Richard and Dawn Roberts, together with their very able GGBN team of Geoff Brown, Clive Smith, Phil Robson and Billy McNamee.

A dynamic yet purposeful atmosphere was soon encapsulated and the objectives of the Network reiterated:

  • To promote your own business

  • To learn about other businesses and tap into their knowledge, expertise, network and capabilities etc

  • To have an opportunity to influence issues affecting local business

  • To encourage and develop entrepreneurship within the business community and to spread that passion for business to others.

The Chairman of The Goring Parish Council, Alan Strong, briefly addressed the meeting saying that he was most encouraged that there was once again an organisation representative of the local businesses and welcomed the opportunity for dialogue between the Parish Council and the Business Network.

The network is next having a presence at the Goring Christmas Evening on the 2nd December 2011 where they intend to begin raising money from a raffle (all donations of prizes gratefully received!) to go towards Christmas lights for the Village in the future.

The next networking event is yet to be announced. So watch this space! Members will be informed by Email.

“We were very happy with our launch at the Swan. We were looked after extremely well by the Swan Hotel,” said Richard Roberts (Chairman). “We wanted to create a business buzz and I think we achieved that. A big thank you to everyone for their support.”
