Goring and Streatley's Diamond Jubilee Celebrations
3rd & 4th June 2012

General Organisation

In addition to the various groups organising the 8 main events, there are a number of other groups working in the background to make things happen.

For example, there is a:

Jubilee Street Decoration

Please see the Jubilee Street Decorations page if you would like to help.

Marshals

More marshals are still needed – lots of them!

We need a minimum of 40 marshals, so people can take shifts over the 2 days and also to comply with Health & Safety regulations and insurance requirements.

No experience is necessary, just a willingness to help people move safely from one event to another and generally keep control.

Unfortunately, so far, we are short of volunteers for this important task. Anyone who has been a marshal for the many previous local events would be especially welcome. Also, we need one person (a Chief Marshal) to supervise and brief the duty marshals on their specific responsibilities for the particular events.

Please contact Ron Bridle if you wish to help.

Photos

We would like any old photos of our local 1977 Silver Jubilee celebrations. We need to borrow a few to scan for publication in the Diamond Jubilee Souvenir Brochure & Programme we will be preparing. If you have any, please let me know. They will be returned safely.

Sponsors

If you know of any businesses that might be interested in sponsoring one of the various events or the many support functions (e.g. decorating the High Streets and the bridge etc), please let me know.

Also, donations from any philanthropists would obviously be extremely welcome to support these community events.

We have already had one or two very generous pledges of donations and offers of financial support but we need a lot more to do everything on the programme.

As every event will be free and there will be no income from ticket sales from the 2 major concerts, all the costs of hiring and buying necessary materials has to be found by Sponsorship or Fundraising..

Fundraising

It would be good if as many local organisations as possible are able to contribute to the celebrations in one way or another. Perhaps each group who hold fundraising events may like to consider donating a proportion of any profits towards the Jubilee Fund? In this way, every group can feel it has made some contribution, even if they were not actively organising one of the events.

All contributors will be recorded in the Souvenir Brochure, which will be published before the Jubilee – and also in the main Goring & Streatley book of the celebrations which will be produced after the event. All the names of the organisations and people who have contributed will be recorded for posterity in these two potentially historic publications.

There are a number of Jubilee Support Projects where you can help contribute.

General

If you can help in any of these Jubilee activities, then please contact Ron Bridle.

This Jubilee Celebrations section on this website will  provide a continuous and up-to-date source of information.

Also, if anyone would like to attend the next Jubilee planning meetings to hear more, they are being held at 7.30pm on Wednesday 2nd and 30th May in the Canterbury Room.
