Transport

As well transport to and from the Community Centre, transport is also provided for those having difficulty in getting to the surgery or hospitals for appointments.  An office is manned between 10:00 am and midday Monday to Friday to receive requests for assistance and transport is arranged from a team of voluntary drivers.  Destinations include the Goring and Woodcote surgeries; Royal Berks Hospital; Wallingford Hospital; Townlands Hospital, Henley and the Oxford hospitals.

Transport passes have been arranged for waiting at Royal Berks and John Radcliffe Hospitals.

Red Cross Medical Loan

A service is provided for the short-term loan of medical equipment supplied by the Red Cross.  The scheme covers patients, for example, waiting for equipment from Social Services, those requiring help after surgery or a visitor needing equipment during a stay in the locality.  Ideally the loan period should be no longer than eight weeks.

The equipment, held in stock at the Centre, includes items such as wheelchairs, commodes, bath seats, raised toilet seats and walking aids.  Items not held in stock are obtained from the head office at Abingdon.  A catalogue of new and second hand equipment for sale is also held.

There is no charge or deposit for a loan but donations are welcomed and frequently given.  During a typical year some 70 items of equipment will loaned and some £800 added to the Red Cross funds

All the volunteers attend a brief familiarisation/training course arranged by the Red Cross.

Contact with the service is via the Information Office.
